Blair had been pulled into yet another surgery just before it was time to leave. Now that she was finally home, she was too tired to even think about cooking or cleaning. Thanks to Hassan and Fatimah, she never had to worry about the children when she was working, or when they had late night plans. The invites for Blair and Hassan to attend events had ramped up ever since that night on the yacht. Blair now had a social life to go along with family and work life, and something about having all three made her feel a little overwhelmed.

Tonight, when she stepped over the threshold, a sudden emptiness hit her. No sounds, except from in the kitchen. But the feel was … off. She realized that the children weren’t there even without going to their rooms to check.

Stepping a few more feet into the living room, she was greeted by candles and flowers that had been strategically placed throughout, leading all the way to the dining room. The place was spotless, no toys, no clothes—and she was grateful that someone else had done the honors.

Blair kept moving until she could find the explanation for all this unexpected beauty unfolding before her. The scent of cumin hit, and she followed it to the kitchen where Hassan was at the stove, plating a meal of basmati rice, stuffed chicken, grilled asparagus, garlic pita, and salad. All of it smelled so good, her stomach did a tango and almost made it to the table before she did.

Watching him prepare their meal with such finesse made her heart sing. No man, except Hassan, had ever done this for her. No man had cared enough to ensure that after a long day she had a decent meal prepared by his own hands. This was different. And so very appreciated.

He held out the chair for her to take a seat opposite from him, then whipped the napkin from the table, spread the fabric, and placed it on her lap when she settled in.

“Full service, huh?” she asked, as he slid the jacket from her shoulders then extracted a small hot towel from a bowl in front of him and cleansed her hands.

“Nothing but the best.” Hassan’s gaze shone with affection. “My mother made sure the men in her family could appreciate what it took to make a good meal,” he answered, sliding into his seat, and pouring her a glass of sparkling grape juice.

He remembered, no alcoholic beverages during the work week. Even his choice of music was awesome. Smooth jazz played in the background as they exchanged small talk. When she tried to shift the conversation to questions about him, he deflected and said, “Tonight is all about you.”

They chatted about several sites she still hadn’t visited and when they could go.

When she finished the meal, Hassan extended his hand and switched the music selection to Adore by Prince before leading her out to the patio to dance under the moonlight.

They were comfortable with each other, despite the rocky beginning.
